Sharman Solicitors is one of the oldest family law practices in the Liverpool City Region.
Our business has been in the hands of five generations since 1852 and in 2022 we celebrated our 170th Anniversary.
1838
On 12th November 1838 Samuel Sharman signed a five-year Articles of Clerkship with his uncle Alexander Sharman. Upon qualification he briefly joined Messrs. Eden, Son & Stanistreet of Liverpool before forming a new partnership, Blundell and Sharman Solicitors.
1852
The partnership was dissolved in 1852 and Samuel Sharman set up his own practice, which operated out of the same offices in Princes Building, North John Street, Liverpool. For many years he acted as agent for the Blundell family of Crosby living close by in Little Crosby.
1886
Samuel Sharman died in 1886 and is buried at St. Mary’s Church, Little Crosby. His gravestone reads ‘He was for many years a valued and trustworthy agent at Crosby Hall and his loss is deeply deplored’. Samuel was succeeded by his son Hubert who practiced as H. J. Sharman Solicitors at 60 Castle Street, Liverpool.
1946
After the Second World War, Hubert was joined by his son Maurice and the practice name changed to Sharman and Son. Maurice had qualified as a solicitor just before the war but then saw active service overseas with the Royal Artillery Corps.
1949
Sadly their partnership was short-lived as Hubert died in May 1949, only a few years after Maurice had joined the practice. Maurice continued practicing alone under the name Sharman and Son.
1974
Maurice’s eldest son Michael qualified as a solicitor in 1974 and joined the practice. At this time the offices moved to Century Buildings in North John Street, Liverpool. They practiced under the name Sharman and Son.
1980
Maurice retired from the practice having served for nearly 40 years. Michael continued to practice alone with Maurice acting as an advisor. In 1997, the practice moved to Coronation Road, Crosby where we remain today.
2002
Michael welcomed his son Peter to the practice in 2002 and Peter took over the role of lead partner in 2017. They continued to operate under the name Sharman & Son until Michael’s retirement in 2017.
2018
Mark Burnet joined the partnership in 2018 to lead the Wills & Probate team, working alongside Peter. Michael continues to act in an advisory capacity. Together they practice under the name Sharman Solicitors.

Today
Today, in addition to the three partners, Sharman Solicitors employs a small team of fee earning and support staff, who continue to uphold the values of a small family practice providing legal services for the local community.
